Definately not because of domestic policy. I do not really agree with anything at all that he is doing in the United States – Bush’s policies are bad for the environment, favor large corporations that have supported him financially, have caused an extremely large budget deficit, and in general lack any accountability for any logic or reasoning beyond “my instincts” and “praying for strength to do the Lord’s will“. (Not that I have anything against prayer…but since the only prophets we have todays are babies and idiots, neither alternative is good).
Basically the only redeeming factor for me about Bush is his stance on Israel. Don’t get me wrong…he is not the greatest. But he has been pretty good. Most telling sign for this is that he has passed the ‘enemy-of-my-enemy’ test: Yassir Arafat was rooting for Kerry, as was Michael Moore, and France. On the other hand, supporting Bush were HaRav Shalom Yosef Elyashiv and Silvio Berlusconi. He hasn’t made friends with Arafat, and hasn’t tried to force Israel to do things like Clinton haTzaddik tried to do.
That said, I hope that he keeps his Road Maps to himself, encourages Israel to defend herself, and stops being a hypocrite. And let’s always remember: “Kol Mah Shetiknu, Lo Tiknu Elah Letzorech Atzman” Shabbat 33b – we still need to look after ourselves, and do what we need to do in this world.
