Abe Foxman, director of the Anti-Defamation League in the U.S., has told Israeli government officials that Israel should hesitate before “inviting” Jews of the Diaspora to immigrate.
“Say, ‘Yes, we want all Jews,’ but don’t pronounce and don’t invite them in times of crisis because it undermines their safety,” Foxman told the Knesset committee on Immigration and Absorption.
Foxman makes very clear with his remarks his beliefs: that no matter what is happening in Eretz Yisrael, American Jews should have nothing to do with it – unless the American Jews are safe. It is OK if “Israeli Jews” and “French Jews” are put into an “unsafe” situation – but dont get the American Jews involved.
What a nerve. Of course, if anyone expected something better to come from the Anti-Defamation League when it comes to being loyal to Jewish causes…well…you obviously haven’t been following the news over the past few decades. But it still gets me every single time we have an American Jewish organization proclaiming very publicly that the Jews in the US do not have a responsibility to our brothers in the Holy Land beyond sending over our money.
