…do not give them any of the following “advice” (or variations thereof):
- “You had better get some sleep now – once the baby comes you wont get any sleep”
- “Trust me: take vacation before the baby comes. Because after the baby comes, you wont be going anywhere for a long time.”
As much as you may think that the recipient wishes to hear your advice, and as much as you think that you really need to let them know (very enthusiastically) how much better their quality of life will be before they have their first child, and as much as you think that you are the first person to ever tell them these things: they don’t, it is not necesarily true, and you are not.
Please people, it is starting to get annoying. If you really need to say these things, please go find a mirror.

Mazel tov! True you may be tired, without vacation, and experiencing lots of stresses once the baby comes but you will also be experiencing joy, contentment, and happiness such as you’ve never had before. I think the latter will far out-weigh any of the “drawbacks.” LOL, just ask any of those nay-sayers if they would trade their little bundles of joy in for some of that freedom they had before the arrival and you definitely won’t get any takers. And speaking as someone who has all the freedom of being child-free, I can’t wait to trade in that ‘freedom’ and have a family! Mazel tov again!
