After I was able to reestablish my Internet connection, I had over 5,000 blog posts waiting for me to read. I am now down to around 700. I didn’t read them all, mostly I just skimmed and picked out the ones that looked worthy of a perusal.
One post that just caught my attention is Exacerbating [...]

Brownie Crisis Averted
Monday, January 16th, 2006
At the end of August, the Rabbi from my erstwhile shul in the US sent out an email communication (this was right in the middle of the Disengagement), following up on an announcement that he made the previous Shabbat. It was regarding Duncan Hines decision to change their brownie mix (mmm…brownies) from pareve to dairy. [...]

A Different Kind of Hashgacha Pratit
Sunday, January 8th, 2006
Last week my wife took part in a women’s Rosh Chodesh group with the theme of Hashgacha Pratit (short version: Divine Providence over a person’s day-to-day life). In our brainstorming, we couldn’t think of anything better than how we met (and everyone uses that one anyways). Well tonight we had a very evident occurence of [...]

Shipping Woes
Sunday, January 8th, 2006
Well, it could be worse. And hopefully one day from now we will have received our complete lift.
The problem is that we were suppossed to have gotten it all today.
It all started last week. As a new oleh I am entitled to receive a number of shipments of household items tax-free. Of course, in order [...]

Aliyah & Historical Responsiblity
Sunday, January 8th, 2006
Read how Bec found herself in Israel and ultimately decided to make aliyah (though there is a lot left out from the whole process).
Most people who want to make aliyah or who have made aliyah have some main driving force motivating them. For me part of it has always been Torah/Halacha. But I can very [...]

Rain
Saturday, January 7th, 2006
The rain is coming down very hard right now in the Yerushalayim.
(Yay! Rain is good. Especially at night. But hopefully not tomorrow when our lift arrives)

Hi-Tech in Israel on the Upswing

Article in the NYTimes called High-Tech Industry in Israel Goes From Bust to Boom.
Israel’s high-tech sector is having its best year since the dot-com implosion in 2000, and the evidence includes this working-class town, where bulldozers are rapidly clearing acres of land for a huge, state-of-the-art chip-making plant.

In the News
Tuesday, January 3rd, 2006
Since our arrival, we have been in the news in a few different places:
I was interviewed by Israeli Television as we got off of the plane. Friends of my parents saw me on one of the regular Israeli news channels later on that night
Pictures of the rest of my family (10th from the top)
Quoted in [...]
