On my way back from Yerushalayim this afternoon, I stopped in the local supermarket (Rami Levi at Shaar Binyamin). The main reason was to get some pizza for dinner (they have a small take-out pizza place right there, with the cheapest pizza in the area by far – 24 shekel for a pie with toppings – and it tastes very good as well). Only after I ordered the pizza did I realize that I was curring it very close with Mincha – since we moved the clocks back last Motzei Shabbat, sunset is now at around 5:20. By the time the pizza was done, I might not be able to get back to the yishuv on time in order to make the minyan before sunset.
A minute later, I heard a voice over the supermarket loudspeaker: “For all who are interested, mincha will be starting now in the beit knesset at the end of aisle six”. I asked the pizza guy to hold my pie, and was number 4 in the minyan (we had 13 men davening in the end). Talk about an only-in-Israel moment…
