Seeing a Jewish blogger complaining about the two three-day sets of Shabbat/Yom Tov** led me to wake out of my blog-slumber (two months since my last post, and only one in the two months before that, my driest spell since I started nearly three years ago). As you can see from the time when I am posting (Thursday evening, when those keeping three days are starting their second day and thinking about how nice a hot shower would be), I am only observing one day of Yom Tov. Now it is Chol haMoed, I am checking my email, going to take a shower, and will be able to do more shopping tomorrow to prepare for Shabbat (and maybe go on a tiyul to the zoo as well).
If you are only reading this on Motzei Shabbat, after three consecutive days of no melacha, with another three-set coming up on Thursday, there is hope. Nobody is forcing you into this. Just call up NBN, they can help you to alleviate the situation (and you had better stop fast, because this coming Pesach starts with another three-day Shabbat/YT as well).
Moadim l’Simcha to all!!
**You get three days of consecutive Yom Tov and Shabbat when you live outside of the Land of Israel and the first day of Yom Tov falls either on Thursday – leading to Thursday and Friday being Yom Tov, to be followed by Shabbat, or on Sunday – leading to Shabbat, followed by two days of Yom Tov. People living in Israel only observe one day of Yom Tov on Pesach, Shavuot and Sukkot, and thus right now we have Thursday as Yom Tov, Friday as Chol haMoed, and Shabbat.
