Last night, Adina made a frosted chocolate cake to bring to work, in honor of one of her coworker’s birthday (who wouldn’t want some cake for their birthday?). I forgot to remind her to take it this morning, and when I spoke with her, asked her if she had remembered. She had, and I said that I was hoping that she had forgotten it, because that way I would get to eat it. She replied that she would bring me back the left overs. To which I responded: “There is no way I am going to get some of that cake. If you serve cake to a group of women eating around a table, everyone will take slivers, and half pieces, and quarter pieces, since no woman wants other women to watch them pigging out. But if you put a cake out on the counter in a workplace full of women (like the place where my wife works), where they can wander over one by one and take without being observed, the cake will disappear before you know it.” In response to this, I got a laugh and a “you’re probably right”.
The cake was put down on the counter around 8:40am. Adina went to get a piece at 10am and it was all gone.
